It’s design week in Toronto! IDS is in full swing until the 29th but make sure you get to the satellite shows. There is a host of creative talent here (and less vacuum salesmen). You can find a list of the offsite events here. Make sure you get to the Gladstone Hotel’s Come Up to my Room, Imm Living’s Not Forkchops, Associates, and Capacity! It’s no surprise fellow DISPLAY’ers will be found. Good luck Brady Del Rosario, Michelle Ivankovic, Zoe Mowat, and Heather McGaw! Stay tuned for photos next week.

Eindhoven, Netherlands
1. Where did you spend your childhood?
Toronto.
2. Any telltale signs as a child that you were going to be a designer?
Definitely. I was obsessed with making stuff.
3. You moved to Amsterdam a few years ago after an impressive career with Toronto based Umbra. You designed a number of hit products including the strass stool which is part of the Cooper Hewitt’s permanent design collection. Since heading overseas you have been working under your own name, are showing at this year’s IDS, and have curated an artisanal collection of batch production objects for Umbra’s studio line. Can you tell us a bit more out what you’ve been up to?

Edmontonian Dana Cannam, currently based in Eindhoven after graduating from the Design Academy, has had recent success with his ‘clamp lamp’. Cannam’s first project while studying at the Academy makes use of the compression fit system. The lamp elegantly assembles, disassembles, and adjusts without the use of screws or fasteners and is flat-pack friendly. Read more…
