I love Castor‘s attitude! This Toronto-based, ex-punk, art & design collective has worked on a number of projects from lighting and furniture design to public art since their start in 2006. Known for their gritty, utilitarian design aesthetic principals Brian Richer and Kei Ng are both terrifying and captivating.
In 2010 their love for food and music inspired them to open Parts & Labour, a space that combines food, wine, and punk-rock. Opening to major acclaim – the vibrant west-end neighbourhood of Parkdale, Toronto is the new home to this chic upstairs dining room and basement music venue. Evoking Castor’s “organized garbage” design aesthetic the 5,000 square-foot space boasts an uncomplicated menu of haute cuisine by Chef Matthew Matheson, and thoughtfully crafted cocktails by Rob Turrene. Underneath the restaurant you’ll find The Shop, a live music venue where live bands and DJ’s play to the packed room. And if that weren’t enough the restaurant also comes with it’s rooftop garden from which Chef Matty harvests some of his ingredients.
